Yesterday, on May 18th, we held the second edition of the conference “The Spanish Economy and Geopolitics” at the Westin Palace Hotel in Madrid. During the event we analyzed the effects of the new geopolitical landscape, which has been marked by the invasion of Ukraine, on our country’s economy.
A debate table led by Javier Vega de Seoane, Honorary Chairman of the Circle of Entrepreneurs, and made up by Laura González-Molero, President of APD (Association for the Progress of Management), Jaime Malet, President of AmChamSpain and Manuel Pérez-Sala, Chairman of the Circle of Entrepreneurs guided the analysis.
When it was his turn to speak, our Chairman, Jaime Malet, emphasized the importance of cooperation between Europe and the United States at all levels. He also called for production in our country to be reassessed in order to make it more local both geographically and geopolitically. In his words: “Spain cannot work with autocratic and unstable countries.”
Meanwhile, Laura González-Molero talked about the changes that our economy and labor market are undergoing. She highlighted the importance of using technology to improve the competitiveness of all sectors, specifically mentioning the difficulty that companies will encounter in finding and retaining qualified talent.
Lastly, Manuel Pérez-Sala provided an analysis of the current economic situation. Covering areas such as renewable energies, our country's strategic partnerships or our pension system, the Chairman of the Circle asked for realism in light of the looming economic recession.
We would like to thank our official sponsors for making the event possible: Brystol Myers Squibb, Damm, Gilead Sciences, Nippon Gases and Santander.
