Jaime Malet, Chairman of AmChamSpain, and Asís Martín de Cabiedes, President of Europa Press, inaugurated the “Global Trends 2024: Roadmap for Attracting Investment, Talent & Innovation in a Fragmented World” confrence, attended by over 350 senior representatives from the Spanish business ecosystem.
The event, organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Spain (AmChamSpain) in collaboration with Europa Press, was sponsored by companies such as Amazon Web Services, Amgen, Bristol Myers Squibb, Coca-Cola, Cushman & Wakefield, Delta, FTI Consulting, Gilead Sciences, Google, Iron Mountain, Nippon Gases, Pfizer, Banco Santander, SAS, Salesforce, and Uber. It aimed to analyze major global economic and geopolitical trends, as well as transatlantic relations, through a dialogue between AmChamSpain member companies and other business, political, and public opinion leaders.
Over a dozen presentations and roundtables, with more than 50 speakers, examined Spain's main challenges within the current geopolitical context, as well as its strengths. The event highlighted issues such as the recent decline in productivity, the demographic challenge marked by an inverted population pyramid, and high public debt. However, Spain's significant potential for the future was also discussed, particularly, as noted by Jaime Malet, Chairman of AmChamSpain, due to its access to major markets such as the U.S. and Latin America, the capability of its executives, its leadership in sectors like healthcare, and, most importantly, its suitability to become a global hub for green energy.
This business analysis, approached from a strongly Atlanticist perspective, also explored crucial topics such as attracting and retaining talent, fostering transatlantic investments, the development of artificial intelligence, data management and storage, and Europe's competitiveness following recent EU elections.
